A Charitable Trust Since 1965
Nearly 60 Years of Putting People First
Derbyshire House is not a business. It is a home, operated by The W J Yapp Bequest, a registered charitable trust that has served the community of East Leake for nearly six decades.
Every penny goes back into the care of our residents and the upkeep of their home. There are no shareholders, no profit targets, and no corporate agenda. Just a deep-rooted commitment to providing the best possible quality of life for the people who live here.
With 31 en-suite rooms set within beautiful grounds near Meadow Park, Derbyshire House offers residential care, day care, and respite care in a setting that feels genuinely like home.
What We Offer
Care Built Around You
Whether you are looking for a permanent home, a place to spend the day, or a short stay while family take a break, Derbyshire House offers warmth, companionship, and genuine personal care.
Residential Care
Our core service. 30 permanent rooms, all single with en-suite, many with French doors opening onto private gardens. Person-centred care plans, bi-weekly GP ward rounds, and a staff team that knows every resident by name.
Day Care
Join us for the day and enjoy home-cooked meals, stimulating activities, and the company of others. Perfect for those who want companionship and support without leaving their own home permanently.
Respite Care
A dedicated respite room for short-term stays, whether to give a family carer a well-earned break or to support recovery. The same warmth and attention as every permanent resident receives.
Daily Life
Where Every Day Has Purpose
From home-cooked meals shared with staff to afternoons in the garden with the dogs, life at Derbyshire House is shaped by what makes our residents happy.
Three home-cooked meals are served daily, with choices at every sitting and snacks available throughout the day. What makes mealtimes special here is that staff sit down and eat with residents — it is a social occasion, not a service. Dietary requirements and personal preferences are always accommodated.
18 of our rooms have French doors opening onto private garden areas where residents tend their own flowerbeds. We have our own transport for outings, a hair salon every Monday, regular chiropody, optician visits, exercise bikes, music for health sessions, and a calendar of events that means there is always something to look forward to. Life does not have to be dull just because of age.
What Makes Us Different
More Than a Care Home — a Community
We pride ourselves on our friendly, caring community modelled on a family home where staff do not wear uniform. Everyone is on first-name terms. Respect overshadows authority.
Our staff dine with residents because companionship matters as much as care. Animals roam freely — dogs, cats, tortoises, chickens, and rabbits are part of the family. We hold regular "Meet at Molly's" community events, and no one is ever alone on their birthday or Christmas Day — we offer free places so nobody has to celebrate alone.
Although we have a structure, we aim to ensure this is not always visible. What you notice when you walk through the door is warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable feeling that this is someone's home.
“People were at the heart of the service.”— Care Quality Commission, 2019
